What a week it's been for our town. As we drift toward September, there's real pride in the air—our young people have absolutely smashed their GCSEs, and there's a strong sense of community pulling together. The summer's still golden, so this is the perfect moment to get out and enjoy what makes Epsom special before the leaves start turning.

This Week in Epsom

- Local students celebrating record GCSE results — Epsom and Ewell has been crowned Surrey's top performer for GCSEs, with 37.8% of grades at level 7 or above. Huge congratulations to everyone at our local schools.

- Stanwell Fields Primary leading the way on school meals — Former Bake Off judge Dame Prue Leith visited to praise the school's commitment to nutritious, adventurous lunches. It's brilliant to see our local schools thinking seriously about feeding children well.

- Getting around without a car — If you've been meaning to explore Epsom by foot, train, or bus, this week's a good reminder that you really don't need four wheels. The Downs are beautifully accessible, and our train connections to London are genuinely excellent.

- Community strength in focus — Local churches and residents continue to rally together. If you're looking to connect with your neighbours or find ways to support your community, there are people and places ready to welcome you.

This Weekend

Saturday and Wednesday markets are on as usual—brilliant for fresh veg, local cheese, and just soaking up that Saturday morning atmosphere in the town centre. Saturday morning is always lively, so get there early if you want the best pick.

If the weather holds (and fingers crossed it does), Epsom Downs is calling. It's genuinely free to wander, the views are lovely, and it's a perfect spot for a long walk with friends or family. Bring a picnic, bring the dog, bring a book—it's yours to enjoy.

For something a bit different, a gentle stroll through Ashtead or around Stoneleigh is always pleasant this time of year. The trees are still full, but you can feel autumn beginning to edge in.

Where to Eat and Drink

Yaadein in Stoneleigh is well worth a visit if you fancy proper Indian cooking—they do excellent curries and their service is genuinely warm and welcoming. Perfect for a Friday night out.

If you fancy something more low-key, The Jolly Coopers is a proper local pub with real character. Good beer, good chat, and the kind of place where you'll recognise faces.

For something quick and satisfying, Dastaan on Kingston Road does brilliant Pakistani street food—their karahi and freshly made breads are excellent value.

Worth Knowing
