Surrey market town with the Ashley Centre, twice-weekly outdoor market, Clock Tower, and direct trains to London in under 35 minutes.
Epsom town centre is the commercial heart of the Epsom & Ewell borough, built around the pedestrianised High Street and the Ashley Centre shopping mall. The town has a long market tradition — the twice-weekly outdoor market on the High Street is one of the most established in Surrey.
The town centre is compact and easy to walk. The Ashley Centre covers the major high-street chains alongside a large supermarket, while the Upper High Street and lower High Street carry a mix of independent businesses, restaurants, and service providers. The Clock Tower at the junction of High Street and Upper High Street is the principal civic landmark.
Epsom has excellent rail links. Direct trains run to London Victoria (c. 32 minutes), London Waterloo (c. 38 minutes), and Dorking. Bus services connect the town centre to Ewell, Banstead, Leatherhead, and the wider borough.
The town is perhaps most famous for Epsom Downs Racecourse — home of The Derby and The Oaks, two of Britain's five Classic races. On Derby day (the first Saturday in June) the town takes on a festival atmosphere, with tens of thousands of visitors arriving from across the country.
