It's been quite a week in our town, and we're all feeling a bit ready for some peace and quiet. The good news? Late August is absolutely brilliant for getting outdoors, breathing fresh air, and remembering why we love living here. Let's make the most of what's left of summer.

This Week in Epsom

- Community events: St Martin's Church and other local groups are hosting community gatherings this week. If you're looking to reconnect with neighbours and support local causes, there's a real sense of people pulling together around town.
- Free outdoor exploration: August really is the month for it. Our local green spaces—Epsom Downs, Horton Country Park, and the woodland walks around Ashtead—are looking gorgeous right now. No entrance fees, just proper nature.
- Wednesday and Saturday markets: The farmers' market at Epsom town centre is running as usual. Fresh veg, local producers, coffee stalls—worth a Saturday morning wander.
- Dog days of summer: If you've got kids or grandkids at home, they'll love the open spaces around Epsom Common and Epsom Downs. Bring a picnic, let them burn off some energy.

This Weekend

Saturday's your best bet for the market—get there early (around 9am) for the best choice of local produce. Pop along to Epsom Downs itself if you fancy a longer walk. The views across Surrey are still stunning, and it's completely free. The bridleways around Ashtead are lovely too if you're after something quieter.

Sunday morning, consider a gentle walk through Ewell. The village has proper charm, and there's a good stretch of the Hogsmill River to follow. Stop at a local café afterwards—you'll have earned it.

If the weather holds and you're staying local, grab a picnic from the market and find a spot on the Downs. August evenings are still long enough for a proper sunset.

Where to Eat and Drink

Yaadein in Stoneleigh is proper worth a visit if you fancy Indian. Warm staff, genuine flavours, and they're always happy to chat about specials. Great for a Saturday night out.

The Jolly Coopers is your go-to for a proper pub afternoon—good ale, decent food, and the kind of place where locals actually hang about. Perfect for a lazy Sunday lunch.

If you want something straightforward and reliable, Dastaan on Kingston Road does excellent Pakistani cuisine. Family-friendly, good value, and you'll see familiar faces.

Worth Knowing

- Parking: Town centre car parks can get busy on Saturday mornings around market time. If you're heading down, arrive before 10am or consider the station car park and walking through.
