What's On in Epsom: 2–8 August 2026

Well, what a week it's been! The summer heat's still hanging on, which means it's absolutely prime time for getting outdoors and enjoying everything our corner of Surrey has to offer. August is one of those months where Epsom really shines—the Downs are glorious, the commons are green, and there's a real sense of people slowing down and actually exploring their own backyard.

This Week in Epsom

- August is walking season — Whether you fancy a gentle stroll through the Downs, a wander around Nonsuch Park, or exploring one of our local commons, this is the time to do it. It's completely free, and honestly, there's nothing quite like an August walk when the light's just right.

- Markets keep running — Head to Epsom town centre on Wednesday or Saturday mornings for our regular market. Fresh produce, local bits and pieces, and a good chat—it's a proper community hub.

- Getting around without the car — If you're thinking about exploring further afield (Godalming, Dorking, even into Surrey's quieter villages), trains and buses are your friends this time of year. No petrol costs, no parking hassle.

- Sustainable tourism in the area — Just over in Godalming, they've opened up a rather impressive lakeside nursery in a restored 19th-century mill. If you've got little ones, it's the sort of place worth knowing about—lovely setting, woodland surroundings, properly thought-through design.

This Weekend

Saturday's another market day, so pop along if you haven't already this week. After that, the Downs are calling—bring a picnic, bring the family, bring a book. The views across Surrey are stunning even in August heat.

If you fancy something a bit different, Sunday's perfect for a circular walk starting from one of Epsom's village greens. Ewell, Ashtead, Stoneleigh—they've all got lovely walking routes nearby that'll take you through proper Surrey countryside and back to your front door in a couple of hours.

Where to Eat and Drink

After all that walking, you'll want feeding. Yaadein over in Stoneleigh does absolutely brilliant Indian food—proper flavour, proper portions, and they treat locals brilliantly. Alternatively, if you fancy something quicker and less formal, The Jolly Coopers is a solid choice for a pint and something honest from the kitchen. And if you're in the mood for something a bit more special, Dastaan on Kingston Road does Pakistani food that'll genuinely make your week better.

Worth Knowing

Transport on a budget — If you're exploring beyond Epsom this week, look into a Zones 1–6 daily cap for trains and buses. It often works out cheaper than you'd think, and it means you can hop on and off without worrying about the cost.

Parking near the Downs — If you're driving up to Epsom Downs racecourse for a walk (it's not a race day, so it's lovely and quiet), arrive early-ish if you want a decent spot. Saturday mornings, especially, get a bit busier.

Enjoy the week, and do get outside. August doesn't last forever, and Epsom in summer really is rather special.
