What a week we've had! The sun's been brilliant, and Epsom's buzzing with that lovely summer energy. We've got some cracking new spots opening up around town, and with these long July evenings, there's never been a better time to get outdoors. Let me share what's worth doing this week.

This Week in Epsom

- New bakery alert: Slindon Patisserie, a proper family-run bakery from the South Downs with 45 years of tradition, has just opened a stall in The Square. If you fancy artisan breads, cream cakes, and pastries made the right way, it's well worth a pop along.

- Summer walks season: July's absolutely perfect for exploring Epsom and the surrounding villages on foot. With long days and (fingers crossed) decent weather, it's ideal for discovering the free walks around Epsom Downs, Ashtead Common, and beyond — no need to go far from home for a proper countryside feel.

- Feel-good animal rescue story: A local French bulldog rescued by the RSPCA back in February has made a remarkable recovery after emergency surgery and found a loving new home. Always lovely to hear these stories!

- Coffee and cakes in nearby Windlesham: If you fancy venturing slightly further afield, Windlesham Cakery opened recently and locals are raving about the freshly baked cakes, pastries, and quality coffee. Run by a local baker called Lucinda — proper community spot.

This Weekend

Saturday and Sunday are looking beautiful — make the most of it!

For a walk: Head to Epsom Downs early morning if you can. It's free, it's peaceful before it gets busy, and you'll get brilliant views across Surrey. Ashtead Common is another gem nearby — lovely for families, and the shade from the trees is welcome on warm days.

For the market: Epsom's Saturday market in The Square is always worth a wander. Fresh veg, local bits and pieces, and now you can grab something from Slindon Patisserie while you're there. The market's also on Wednesday if you can't make Saturday.

Picnic prep: Pop to one of Epsom's independent greengrocers or the market, grab some local cheese or cured meats, pick up fresh bread from the new patisserie, and have a proper picnic on the Downs. Peak summer living.

Where to Eat and Drink

Yaadein (Stoneleigh) remains a local favourite for authentic Indian food — friendly staff, proper flavours, and a real neighbourhood feel. Great for a mid-week dinner.

Dastaan on Kingston Road is another excellent choice if you're craving quality Indian cuisine — consistent, welcoming, and the sort of place where they remember regulars.

The Jolly Coopers is your go-to if you fancy a proper pub evening with a decent pint and good company. Classic Epsom.

Worth Knowing

Parking tip: If you're heading into The Square to visit the new patisserie or market, arrive early on Saturday morning — spaces fill up quickly. The car parks just off the High Street are your friends.

Long summer evenings: With sunset not until around 9:15 pm this week, you've got bags of time for an evening walk or to sit outside with a drink. Make the most of it — we know how British weather can turn!
