Summer's here and Epsom is glorious—time to shake off the working week and get outside.

Good Morning, Epsom

What a week it's been—and what a time to be here. Summer's properly arrived, the days are long, and honestly, there's nowhere nicer to be than Epsom right now. Whether you're local or just visiting, this is the perfect moment to dust off your walking boots and make the most of it.

This Week in Epsom

- Getting outside is easier than you think. Our coverage this week has focused on how to explore Epsom without a car—whether that's hopping on the train to London, taking the bus to nearby villages, or simply walking. If you've been meaning to try the car-free life (or even just one car-free day), this week's a brilliant time to give it a go.

- June is peak season for green spaces. The Downs are absolutely stunning right now, the local parks are bursting with life, and countryside walks are genuinely magical in this weather. We've put together a practical guide to making the most of Epsom's outdoor treasures—from gentle strolls to proper rambles.

- A major nature reserve is coming to Guildford. Not quite on our doorstep, but worth noting: Burpham Court Farm's 56-acre nature reserve opens later this year as part of Guildford's Weyside Urban Village. A great day out for early autumn, and worth keeping on your radar.

- Free things to do abound this summer. If you're looking to enjoy Epsom without spending a fortune, we've rounded up wonderful outdoor spaces and attractions that won't cost you a penny. Spoiler: there are loads.

This Weekend

Saturday's Epsom Market day—brilliant for fresh veg, local producers, and a genuine bit of community buzz. Pop along in the morning, grab a coffee, soak in the atmosphere.

If the weather holds (and it should), head up to Epsom Downs for a proper walk. The views are stunning, and it's free, forever. Bring a picnic, take your time, watch the world slow down.

Sunday's perfect for one of the countryside walks we've been banging on about. Ashtead Common is glorious this time of year—ancient woodland, open spaces, and you can easily spend a few hours there without feeling rushed.

Where to Eat and Drink

After a morning on the Downs, Yaadein in Stoneleigh is exactly what you want: proper North Indian cooking, warm service, and the kind of place that feels like home. Well worth a visit.

If you fancy something more casual, The Jolly Coopers (our proper local pub) does decent food and has a lovely feel about it—the sort of place where you can linger over a pint and not feel hurried.

For something different, Dastaan on Kingston Road is brilliant for Pakistani cuisine—really flavourful, generous portions, and genuinely friendly. Perfect if you've worked up an appetite.

Worth Knowing

Getting around: If you're planning a car-free weekend, remember that South Western Railways runs regularly to London (Victoria, Waterloo), and local buses connect you to Ashtead, Ewell, and beyond. Journey times are pretty reasonable, and you'll often find the stress of parking isn't worth it anyway.

Market day: Epsom's market runs Wednesdays and Saturdays from early morning. Get there early for the best choice, or linger later for a more relaxed vibe. Either way, it's worth the trip.

Enjoy the week, and do get outside. You've earned it.
