Cranleigh has a wonderful new creative destination with the opening of Speckled Dog Studio at Smithbrook Kilns. Founded by Becky Johnston, a former primary school teacher turned home educating parent, the studio brings together years of teaching experience with a genuine passion for hands-on, imaginative learning.

A Space for Young Creatives

With 17 years of experience in education, including specialist work supporting children with additional learning needs, Becky has created a bright and welcoming studio dedicated to process-led art. The focus is firmly on building confidence and wellbeing whilst making creativity feel accessible to everyone who walks through the door.

Classes and Activities for All Ages

Speckled Dog Studio offers something for every age group. Mini Makers sessions cater to the youngest creatives aged three to five, while Make and Create classes are designed for primary-aged children. For slightly older children aged seven to 15, monthly Clay Club sessions provide opportunities to develop their skills further.

Beyond regular classes, the studio runs family workshops, birthday parties, and pottery painting parties. For those who'd like to bring the creative experience home, pottery party kits are available to hire.

The Perfect Rainy Day Destination

Located at Smithbrook Kilns on the A281 in Cranleigh, the studio has found the perfect home amongst a thriving community of independent businesses and creative makers. The welcoming environment encourages children to explore materials, try new techniques, and embrace getting messy—all while enjoying making without the pressure of everything needing to be perfect.

A Dream Come True

Becky Johnston expressed her excitement about the venture, highlighting her commitment to creating a safe and joyful space for young learners. "I have always loved teaching in imaginative, hands-on ways," she explained. "Bringing together my love for teaching, crafting and pottery is a dream come true, and I'm excited to share this with the children and families who join us at Speckled Dog Studios."
