# July Outdoor Activities in Epsom: Free Walks and Summer Exploration

July is one of the loveliest months to get outdoors in Epsom. The days are long, the weather is warm, and our local green spaces are at their most inviting. Whether you're looking for a leisurely stroll, a proper country walk, or somewhere to take the family, we've got plenty of options on your doorstep.

Epsom Downs: Views and Freedom

If you've never spent proper time on Epsom Downs, July is the month to do it. This vast open space is completely free to access and offers some of the finest views in Surrey — on clear days, you can see all the way across London. It's perfect for a long summer walk, a picnic, or simply sitting and watching the world go by.

The Downs are particularly atmospheric in the late afternoon, when the light softens and families are often out enjoying the space. There are good paths throughout, so you can take a short 30-minute ramble or plan something more ambitious. Bring a picnic and make an afternoon of it.

Nonsuch Park: Woodland Walks and History

Stradling the boundary between Cheam and Ewell, Nonsuch Park combines excellent walking with a real sense of history. The woodland is wonderfully cool on hot July days, and there's a good network of paths suitable for all ages and abilities.

The park has a particularly peaceful feel during weekday mornings — worth noting if you prefer quieter walks. There's plenty of space to wander without feeling crowded, and the shaded areas make it ideal for summer.

Ewell Village and the Pond

For a shorter, gentle outing, Ewell Village offers a charming scene. The village pond and surrounding green create a peaceful spot, and St Mary's Church adds historical interest to the walk. It's the sort of place where you can spend an hour or two wandering at a leisurely pace.

While you're there, pop into Bourne Hall Museum on Spring Street — free entry, and genuinely fascinating for anyone interested in local history. It's air-conditioned too, which isn't unwelcome on hot July afternoons.

Ashtead: Village Walks and Pubs

Ashtead has maintained a proper village feel and is excellent for a summer afternoon walk. The common offers plenty of space to roam, and afterwards, there are several well-regarded local pubs where you can refuel with a cold drink.

Planning Your Walk

July can be warm, so start early if you can, bring plenty of water, and wear sun protection. Most of our walks are on good paths, but wear proper footwear rather than sandals. Epsom and Ewell are easy to reach via train if you're coming from further afield, and parking is generally manageable at most starting points.

There's something special about getting to know your local area properly on foot. July gives you the perfect opportunity.
