# July Outdoor Activities in Epsom: Free Walks and Summer Exploration

July is the ideal month to get out and explore Epsom on foot. With long daylight hours and warm weather, it's the perfect time to discover the green spaces and villages that make this part of Surrey special—and many of them won't cost you a thing.

Epsom Downs: Views and Fresh Air

Epsom Downs is one of your best bets for a summer walk. Free to access and sitting 300 metres above sea level, the Downs offer stunning views across London on clear days. It's ideal for a leisurely afternoon stroll or a longer ramble, and there's plenty of space to find a quiet spot away from the crowds. The surrounding grassland is beautiful in summer, and it's a genuinely peaceful escape from the town centre.

Nonsuch Park: A Walk Between Two Villages

Straddling Cheam and Ewell, Nonsuch Park is one of Surrey's hidden gems. The park is completely free to explore, with a network of walking paths that wind through woodland and open parkland. July is lovely here—you'll find shaded routes under the trees and open sections with views across the park. It's perfect for families, dog walkers, or anyone wanting a longer circular walk without heading far from home.

Ewell Village and the Pond

For a shorter, more genteel walk, head to Ewell Village. The village green and pond area is charming, with St Mary's Church providing a touch of history. This is a peaceful spot for a gentle stroll, and it's close to Bourne Hall Museum on Spring Street, which offers free entry if you fancy learning a bit about local history.

Stoneleigh and Ashtead: Village Walks with Character

Both Stoneleigh and Ashtead offer that village feel with plenty of accessible walking. Stoneleigh Broadway has local shops and cafés if you need a rest and a drink, while Ashtead Common provides more open countryside walking. Each has its own character, and both are straightforward to reach from Epsom town centre.

Practical Tips for July Walks

Wear sun protection—July sunshine can be deceptive, even on a breezy day. Bring plenty of water, especially if you're planning a longer walk on the Downs. Early morning or early evening walks are most comfortable in high summer, as midday heat can make longer rambles tiring.

Most of these walks are free, accessible year-round, and genuinely rewarding in July. Whether you're new to the area or rediscovering local spots, there's plenty to explore on foot without spending anything at all.
