A new chapter for historic Ockford Mill

Godalming has welcomed an exciting addition to its family services this month with the opening of Kinderzimmer's latest nursery at the beautifully restored Ockford Mill. Set in stunning lakeside and woodland surroundings on Ockford Road, the nursery represents a significant investment in the community's early-years provision.

The independent childcare provider has carefully renovated the 19th-century building whilst preserving its original character and heritage features. The three-storey nursery spans multiple play rooms, a dedicated garden area, and a spacious kitchen and dining space, offering a warm and nurturing environment for up to 144 children.

Innovation meets sustainability

What makes Kinderzimmer Godalming truly special is its pioneering approach to sustainability. The nursery is powered by a micro-hydro power system that uses the energy from the naturally flowing weir adjacent to the building. This innovative technology is believed to make it the first nursery of its kind in the UK, showcasing what modern childcare facilities can achieve when environmental responsibility is at the heart of design.

Vishav Roma, CEO of Kinderzimmer UK, expressed his pride in the achievement: "Reaching ten organic settings is a milestone moment for the business, and the 'Ockford Mill' has been a passion project of mine for the last two years. To finally be able to bring this forward and realise our grand plans for a hydro-powered, sustainable nursery is incredibly rewarding."

Welcoming families into the community

The nursery welcomes children from 3 months to 5 years old, and parents can expect around £1,000 monthly fees for two days a week attendance. For those considering the nursery, Kinderzimmer is offering weekly free 'Stay and Play' sessions, giving families the opportunity to experience the space and learn more about their approach to early-years education.

Melanie Mewton, Head of Nursery at Kinderzimmer Godalming, added: "Opening kinderzimmer Godalming is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring something truly special to families in the area. Our team is passionate about nurturing independence, exploration, and wonder in every child, and this setting allows us to do that in ways that honour both nature and the heritage of the mill."

The Ockford Mill nursery marks Kinderzimmer's third location in Surrey, joining existing nurseries in Sunbury and Walton. With its prime location near Godalming train station, the nursery is conveniently accessible for local families.
