Epsom and Ewell students shine in record-breaking GCSE results
Epsom and Ewell has been named Surrey's top-performing area for GCSEs, ranking among the best in England with 37.8% of grades awarded at level 7 or above.
A Remarkable Achievement for Our Community
Thursday 20 August was a day of celebration across Epsom and Ewell as thousands of teenagers collected their GCSE results, marking a significant milestone in their educational journeys. The results have brought considerable pride to our community, with Epsom and Ewell emerging as Surrey's best-performing area and ranking among the top ten nationwide.
Outstanding Performance
The figures speak for themselves. At Epsom and Ewell, 37.8% of grades were awarded at level 7 or above—a remarkable achievement that significantly exceeds the South East average of 24.6%. To put this into perspective, only Cambridge ranked higher nationally with 53.5% of grades at this level.
Across the wider county, the picture has been equally encouraging. Nationally, 22.0% of grades were awarded at level 7 or above, up slightly from 21.9% in 2025 and higher than the 20.8% recorded in 2019, showing that standards have continued to improve since the pandemic.
Success Stories in Our Schools
One school that has had particular reason to celebrate is Blenheim High School in Epsom, which has achieved record-breaking results this year. The school's students achieved over 10% higher than the national pass rate, with 78% of grades awarded in the 9-4 range and 25% graded at level 7 or above.

Wider Success Across Surrey
While Epsom and Ewell leads the way locally, the surrounding areas have also performed impressively. Richmond Upon Thames, Sutton and Kingston upon Thames claimed second, third and fourth places respectively, demonstrating the strength of education across South West London and Surrey.
Three other Surrey boroughs also made the national top 20: Waverley (36.6%) came in 11th, Mole Valley (36.4%) in 12th, and Guildford (35.5%) in 16th.
Looking Ahead
These results represent the culmination of five years of hard work by students, teachers and families across our community. As young people now prepare for their next steps—whether that's A-levels, vocational qualifications or other pathways—they can take real confidence from these achievements.
The dedication shown by both students and staff has clearly paid off, and Epsom and Ewell can take genuine pride in being at the forefront of GCSE achievement in England.
